About the Blog

Hello!

My name is Timo Mäkimarttunen, I am math and science teacher in a small Finnish primary school. I also work as a math- and ICT-tutor.

This blog is about GeoGebra, an easy-to-use math application. I have created many applets that I use in my own teaching, you can find them here for free.

Why GeoGebra?

There are many interactive math tools available, but I think GeoGebra has many advantages. First of all, it is completely free and open source. The program can be used via internet browser, or you can download application to your own computer (Win/OSx/Linux...).

Second, GeoGebra is easy to learn and use. Menus and tools are logical to use - of course you have to get used to them first. GeoGebra is easy also for teacher. App can be used "on-the-go", without any preparations, or you can browse thousands of resources, similar to ones in this blog. Embedding applets to your own webpage is easy (for example, Moodle).

Third, GeoGebra connects geometry, algebra and spreadsheets dynamically. GG has many applications for different age groups.

I also have sister-blog about teaching math and science in Finnish primary school. Blog can be found here (in Finnish, though...). This blog includes many of the same GeoGebra applets shown here, but also ICT, games, worksheets, different tools for teachers etc. Worksheets are published with creative-commons-license.
